Required: Each incoming 1st to 8th grade student is required to complete the assigned summer reading book. During the first few weeks of the new school year, they will participate in activities and projects to demonstrate their knowledge of the assigned book. Click here for the Summer 2019 list.

Why is summer reading important? Summer reading keeps the mind engaged and continues to maintain and build those vital literacy skills from the previous year. This reading should be fun, allow for student choice, and include a wide variety of reading including news and sports articles. It’s a time for less structured reading like on planes or car rides. This reading can include the whole family with family read-alouds and audiobooks for those  long car rides. This is a great way for parents to model the importance of reading to their children. Enjoy your summer reading!
